Senior Smart Building Consultant

Location: Iselin, NJ/Remote

Position Description:

The Clarient Group is seeking a Senior Smart Building Consultant to serve as a project manager & consultant to develop, deploy, and iterate smart building solutions at scale. The Senior Smart Building Consultant shall have an educational background & applied work experience rooted in building and business technology systems. The role is client-facing, and the work is fast-paced and highly technical. The ideal candidate is a great communicator, well organized, and can manage scope, schedule, and fee on multiple projects at once. The Senior Smart Building Consultant supports The Clarient Group’s smart building team, helping other project managers, consultants, and account managers deliver projects. Aside from project work and supporting clients, the Senior Smart Building Consultant is expected to positively contribute to the team’s technical and social initiatives. Executing The Clarient Group’s EXPERT process requires a deep understanding of hardware, software, and network infrastructure design, as well as a learning and growth mindset. The Clarient Group’s approach to educating and partnering with clients and other design consultants focuses on a day in the life of employees, clients, visitors, and the facilities teams. This requires critical thinking and flexibility as well as fundamental engineering and project management expertise. The ideal candidate also has significant experience presenting to Fortune 500 clients and C-suite executives.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage scope, schedule, and fee on high-profile smart building projects.
  • Support The Clarient Group account manager in identifying new opportunities for additional services and help establish project approaches and proposal development.
  • Leverages The Clarient Group’s tools and processes for EXPERT smart building delivery to execute new and existing projects in Design, Procurement, and Implementation phases.
      • Design
        • Develop the Basis of Design scope into a set of documents that can be procured by various vendors.
        • Develop solution design documentation and perform a gap analysis of design team drawings and other enterprise business applications.
        • Coordinate directly with vendors, contractors, design team members, owners and clients, end users, and client liaisons or representatives.

      • Procurement
        • Lead owners through technology procurement cycles for existing buildings, enterprise portfolios, and new development projects.
        • Provide selection recommendations and help guide clients through procurement decisions, Execute Requirements sign-off, Request for Qualification (RFQ),
        • Request for Proposal (RFP), Review and Leveling, Interviews, Scoring, Recommendation, Contracting, and Data Security processes.
      • Implementation
        • Ensure the Basis of Design intent is delivered.
        • Support the client directly or indirectly in overseeing stakeholders’ tasks and delivering integrations, technology, and development to support the project use cases and requirements.
        • Establish regular project meetings and cadence for status and technical solutioning milestones.
        • Elevate risks and blockers through the appropriate channels and identify potential solutions and problem-solving opportunities.
        • Communicate with various stakeholders from the C-suite to the contractor.
        • Conduct user acceptance testing and close-out activities, including commissioning and owner signoff.
        • Supported by The Clarient Group project consultants and account managers.
  • Coordination with incumbent and prospective smart building vendors for various clients’ smart building programs and ecosystems.
  • Liaison between many stakeholders within a portfolio client’s central and property-specific IT, management, engineering, and operations teams
  • Develop and prepare smart building program and project budgets using vendor-generated quotes and historical bid data.
  • Maintain and iterate The Clarient Group’s use case library, enabling technology solutions, vendor landscape, and other common group databases.
  • Leverage industry connections to develop new client and vendor relationships.
  • Regularly participate in industry events and learning opportunities.

Skills & Requirements:

  • 10 years of experience in building systems, technology, integration, or construction.
  • General knowledge of smart building concepts including key stakeholders, technology systems, solution providers and market-leading vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain critical client relationships.
  • Project management skills including effectively managing scope, schedule, and fee.
  • Passionate about superior user experiences, future of work, energy transition, and streamlining operational processes.
  • Ability to embrace and absorb new concepts, has a learning and growth mindset.
  • Deep and demonstrated understanding of building systems (BMS, Security, Lighting, AV) and enterprise applications (EMIS, IWMS, Space Booking, Visitor Management, Ordering).
  • Experience with converged networks, cybersecurity, and managed networks in buildings.
  • Ability to communicate technical integration concepts between systems (Physical/Cloud) and the associated method (i.e., via Bacnet/IP, Rest, APIs, SDKs, Webhooks, MQTT, etc.).
  • Experience with Internet of Things (IoT) Platforms and/or Digital Twins.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Access, PowerBI and / or an ability to learn each, is required.
